Membership Information

The Town of St Joseph is protected by a 19-member VOLUNTEER ONLY fire department, many who also VOLUNTEER as Rescue EMS technicians. All members take time out of their personal lives to take the necessary training, maintain the equipment, and respond to emergency calls. The departments are always interested in new members. Upon joining the Fire Department, a state certification class is required. If interested, contact one of the officers listed below or come to one of our mandatory meetings held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Fire Hall. Your service to either group would be most appreciated and welcome! If you have any questions or comments feel free to call.

Burning

The Town Board of the Town of St. Joseph deems it imprudent and dangerous to set fires upon any land within said town.  Therefore, in accordance with the provisions of Section 26.13 of the Wisconsin Statutes, a

CLOSED FIRE SEASON

is hereby declared and every person is forbidden to set fire at any time on any land in this town without permission.  Any person who sets a fire and allows it to escape shall be liable for all expenses incurred in the suppression of such fire in accordance with provisions of Section 26.14 of the Wisconsin Statutes.

Burning permits may be obtained from Town Fire Chief, Town Board Members and other designated persons.

BURNING PERMIT PROCEDURE

St Joseph town residents are required to obtain a burning permit. All instructions, as well as a copy of the town’s burning permit ordinance, are on the application. The permits are now perpetual. The Town’s burning permit procedure is:

1. Pick up a free blank permit application. Permits are available from any fire department member at the Fire Hall (6:30 – 9:30 on the first and third Mondays of the month), from the Town Clerk/Treasurer or any Town Board member.

2. Fill out the permit and have it signed by one of the above individuals (it take about two minutes to complete the form). The Town, the Fire Department and the applicant each get a copy of the permit.

3. Keep your copy on file at your residence.

Once the permit has been signed you may burn following these steps:

1. On the day you wish to burn, call the St Croix County Communication Center and inform them that you have a burning permit and would like to burn. They will ask for your name, address of the actual burn location, and your phone number.

2. If approved you may burn, provided there are no fire danger alerts.

3. Remember, once you light the match, you are responsible for the fire.

Follow the procedure each day you wish to burn.
