September is Proclaimed to be Civility Month

Be it Proclaimed Civility Month

Whereas, the open exchange of public discourse is essential to the democratic system of government; and

Whereas, as a cornerstone of democracy Americans have observed certain rules of behavior generally know as civility; and

Whereas, civility, derived from the Latin words “civitas” meaning city and “civis” meaning citizen , is behavior worthy of people living in a community or in common with others; and

Whereas, civility is a complex word, and whatever civility might be, it has to do with communication, courtesy, politeness, good manners and ethics, and

Whereas, respect of others and acceptance of individual differences, respect of the environment, respect of all creatures, as well as listening, honesty, trustworthiness, fairness, and helping other people; and

Whereas, civility can assist in reaching consensus on diverse issues and allow the mutually respectful ongoing relationships; and

Whereas, civility can uplift our daily life and make it more pleasant to live in an organized society and contribute to the overall happiness of all people; and

Whereas, the Board urges the adoption of a pledge of civility by all citizens in the Town of St. Joseph, Wisconsin,

Now, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Town Board of the Town St. Joseph that the month of September is proclaimed as Civility Month, and calls upon the citizens to exercise civility toward each other.

Done this 5th day of August, 2010 in the Town of St. Joseph, St Croix County, Wisconsin.

2010 Fall Festival

The Town of St Joseph is holding its tenth annual Fall Festival Saturday, September 25, from 10 am to 2 pm, on the town hall/fire hall grounds. Begun as a neighborhood get-acquainted event to show off the community, the festival has added new events each year. This year the festival is being held jointly with Family of Christ Lutheran Church and its silent and live auctions. Located at the intersections of County Rd. E and V in the Town of St Joseph, both will feature items of interest for all. Trolley rides will be provided between Church and Town Hall, and perhaps further, will be offered.

Family animal projects featured will include Chris Madsen’s draft horses and wagon rides. The Burton’s have promised a miniature Shetland pony and a donkey to delight youngsters; llamas and other 4H pet projects will be on hand also.

The Church’s silent auction includes some big ticket items as well as many smaller bargains. A live auction will be held 1:30 to 2:30 pm at the Church.

Promising fun for all ages, the event has included tractors for the adults in previous displays. An inflatable castle and face painting are included for children, while a History booth offers a peek at Town history and an opportunity to meet early residents of the Town. Homestead Parklands, Neighborhood Watch, Master Gardeners, food booths sponsored by 4H and Scouts, booths from local businesses and game and craft booths will be on site also.

Town officials will be available to discuss issues and answer questions. For further information about the event, contact the Town Hall at 549-6235 or Family of Christ Church at 549-6140.
